About the Artist
Mary Lynne Atkinson was one of the founding members of the BaySide Artists.
Atkinson holds the Ontario Graduate Certificate in Studio Process Advancement from Fleming College, through Haliburton School of the Arts, 2014 and a BA from Wilfrid Laurier University, 1984. She has exhibited internationally, including shows in Florence, Barcelona, Brussels, New York and Miami. Her Iceberg paintings were shown in 2012 and 2013 by the Sociéte Nationale des Beaux Arts in the annual Salons held in Carousel du Louvre, Paris. In 2014, Atkinson was awarded a Bronze Medal by the Société Académique Arts-Sciences-Lettres, Paris.
In 2015, she was accepted for a Residency Program at Studio Spark Box. Atkinson was awarded an Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance Grant in 2010 for the BaySide Artists to exhibit FRAGILE SPACES in the John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto. In 2012, she worked in partnership with the Township of Springwater to obtain an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant to support the Springwater Guild of Artists and Artisans Autumn Art Tour.
Her most recent solo show was Land on Fire in the Urban Gallery in Toronto. She exhibits frequently in regional Invitational and Juried Shows in the Orillia Museum of Art and History and the Quest Art Centre in Midland Ontario.
For the past nine years, Atkinson has been invited to be a contributing artist to the Benefactors Loan Program and Off the Hook fundraisers at the MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie Ontario. Currently, she is chair of the organizing committee for the Barrie Spring Art Tour.
Atkinson is a full-time visual artist and primarily a figurative painter who lives and works in Midhurst Ontario. She is well known for her large scale textural landscape paintings based on local woodlands. The rich layers of paint shift from figurative to abstract as part of the visual play of light and paint. The Iceberg Collection of paintings was based on two Arctic Expeditions aboard the Lyubov Orlova in 2007 and 2009. Her work is placed in private collections nationally and internationally.
